Spirit Gridiron Second Team Jam Colorado State Rams

At Yunupingu Field in Canberra, ACT, Dan Harding's Leafa Spirit Gridiron jammed the Colorado State Rams to the tune of 121-13. Halfback Jackson Tatara moved one step close to a historic third straight Doak Walker Award, rushing for 392 yards and four touchdowns while catching 10 passes for 246 yards and two more scores. Middle linebacker Dane Nanase, a converted cornerback, made 11 tackles and three interceptions.

Quarterback Lachlan Akai passed for 337 yards and three touchdown while rushing for 279 yards and six more touchdowns. Halfback Hunter Aoshima ran for 392 yards and four scores while catching three passes for 43 yards, and wide receiver Mitch Kihara led the blocking with 24 pancakes. Wideout Connor Yasaka also had 21 pancake blocks, while six other players on offense recorded at least 10.

Left end Gary Acura recorded three sacks while outside linebacker Mark Matsuoka and left end Blake Tsunetsugu each had two sacks. Cornerback Zach Choi, strong safety Lee Bokmal and cornerback Lincoln Yama also had a pick apiece, with Yama returning his pick 86 yards for a touchdown.

Leafa improve to 8-0 but are in a race with three other teams for the two spots in the BCS Championship Game. Up next is a two-game road trip, starting with the Nevada Wolf Pack. The first team is expected to start next weekend's contest.
