Leafa accelerate past Colorado State as summer nears in Oz

First-year quarterback Shae Katou-Aki passed for 158 yards, ran for 478 yards and scored nine total touchdowns on offence as Dan Harding's Leafa College Spirit Gridiron obliterated the Colorado State Rams at Hughes Stadium, 133-14. Left outside linebacker Nick Mikisugi led the defence with nine tackles, five tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

Halfback Jackson Tatara ran for 325 yards and three scores while catching for another, halfback Archer Hiiro ran for 258 yards and five majors, wide receiver Tyler Aki caught a 67-yard bomb for a touchdown and offensive lineman Gino Fatu had a career-best 13 pancake blocks despite giving up a sack. Three other players on offence contributed to the blocking cause with eight pancakes apiece.

Outside linebacker David Hazuki recorded 11 tackles, a pick and thee sacks; left end Gary Acura continued his stellar senior year with four sacks and an interception, middle linebacker Roy Hanamura led all tacklers with 12 tackles to go with two interceptions, and four other players on defense also had an interception in what was a rough day passing for Colorado State quarterback Craig Leonard.

Leafa improve to 8-0 and return home next week to face the Nevada Wolf Pack at Yunupingu Field in Canberra, ACT.
