Following a rare safety conceded in the pouring rain at Subaru Pleiades Stadium in Canberra, ACT, Dan Harding's Leafa Spirit Gridiron defeated the San Diego State Aztecs 122-26 but were forced to run 52 stadium laps  in their standard-issued green track suits after all the fans and dignitaries cleared out. Making a bee-line that didn't break or lag, they completed the task in 20 minutes flat, which is swift given the distance and time constraint.

Quarterback Shae Katou-Aki passed for 147 yards, ran for 436 yards and scored 10 total touchdowns on offense. Right outside linebacker Wes Narukami registered 14 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to lead the defence.

Halfback Jack Fukushina ran for 509 yards and six majors, fullback Max Haimura caught three passes for 86 yards and a score, and both Jiji Petricca and Jackson Kaburaki each recorded 12 pancakes, although Kaburaki was responsible for the sack that led to the safety. Kaburaki was forced to run an extra lap as a result and did it in two minutes and .7 seconds, a new campus record.

Cornerback Sebastian Kamiya had 11 tackles and two interceptions, while middle linebacker Rhys Miyazawa recorded 16 tackles and a pick. Steele Craftman led a strong pass rush with three sacks, while Kieran Hyakuya added two.

Spirit Senior Day is next week, with Spirit Gridiron hosting the 4-7 Fresno State Bulldogs in what will be a last game for a number of fifth-year players on the squad.
